Internet-Based Registration System (IBRS):
Worldwide Registration Of U.S. Citizens
The State Department recently launched a secure online travel registration website which will allow American citizens to record foreign trip and residence information that the Department of State can use to communicate with and assist them in case of an emergency.
Effective July 15, 2004, U.S. citizens around the world who travel or reside abroad can access the Internet-Based Registration System (IBRS) either through a link on:
http://travel.state.gov
or directly at:
https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs
U.S. citizens are invited to register themselves and their family and get acquainted with travel registration. Persons who are already registered with the Embassy or Consulate General, please re-register on line to update your records.
The IBRS will allow both short- and long-term travelers abroad to provide their itinerary, residence and emergency contact information. Organizations such as travel agencies or firms with employees overseas may also enter information of their clients or staff. This data will help consular officers to locate U.S. citizens in their country in order to relay emergency messages from relatives in the U.S., or during a crisis situation.
The site also allows U.S. citizens to register and update their contact information on the Internet at any time, making it easier for them to keep their information current. In addition, this site also provides up-to-date travel information customized to the individual's unique travel agenda and itinerary. The data provided to this site is secured behind Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only under the provisions of the Privacy Act.
Let us know how you like the new site. If you encounter any difficulties or have any questions about our travel registration website, please send an e-mail to CAIbrs@state.gov. If you have specific questions about your registration with the Embassy, please click here for contact information.
