GEORGIA TO HOLD A SPECIAL RUNOFF ELECTION ON JULY 17, 2007 FOR REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM THE 10TH DISTRICT

The State of Georgia will hold a special federal runoff election on July 17, 2007 in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District to fill the seat of Congressman Charlie Norwood. The candidates are:
10th Congressional District
Paul Broun (Republican) and James Whitehead (Republican)
To determine if your legal residence is in the 10th Congressional District, you can click on Communicating With Your Elected Officials, then "Who is my Representative?" at the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website, www.fvap.gov.

VAOs should contact those citizens they assist who are Georgia voters and inform them of this news release and provide help to them in returning their absentee ballot.

REGISTERING TO VOTE AND REQUESTING A BALLOT:
Under the provisions of the Georgia Election Code, Section 21-2-381.2, the Georgia Secretary of State offers a special absentee ballot, called the Statewide Write-in Absentee Ballot (SWAB) for eligible voters covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act in the event of a runoff election. Voters who received an absentee ballot for the Primary Election automatically received a SWAB (including all necessary envelopes) along with the absentee ballot.

If you have previously requested all absentee ballots as allowed by law, your local county registrar will also mail you a regular absentee ballot containing all runoff races for which you are eligible to vote. In the event both ballots are received prior to the deadline, the registrars will count the regular absentee ballot and not the SWAB.

RETURNING YOUR BALLOT:
The Ballot must be postmarked by the date of the election, July 17, 2007. The Board of Registrars must receive voted ballots no later than Friday, July 20, 2007.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Further information on your precinct, candidates, elections, and voting is available at the Georgia Secretary of State website, http://www.sos.state.ga.us/elections/.
